General Care and Maintenance
High Quality Materials for Long Lasting Signs
Our signs are made from Western Red Cedar. Cedar is well known for its ability to last a long time. In general, it’s naturally resistant to rot, doesn’t mold easily and is not well liked by pests.
Paint and stain
We apply a coat of Cabot Natural 3000. After evaluating multiple products, we selected Cabot Natural 3000 for its superior performance. This oil-based formulation penetrates deeply into the wood, eliminating the cracking, peeling, and yellowing often associated with surface clear-coat finishes. It delivers durable protection against UV damage, mold, and mildew, and enhances resistance to wind and rain. We use Behr exterior paint in the color Blackout, in case you ever need to touch it up
Maintenance and General Care
Our signs do require some maintenance to keep them looking good for many years. How often your sign will need maintenance will depend on your environment. Signs that are in the direct sun, rain or exposed to snow and wind may need to be re-stained more often than those in a more protected spot. We recommend that you apply a coat of Cabot at least once yearly. You can use a small paint brush to apply the stain to all exposed wood areas. If you get the stain on the painted portions, just wipe it off with a dry towel promptly. If you plan to screw the sign onto something, be sure to predrill your screw holes slightly bigger than the screws themselves. Cedar has a tendency to move, and it needs a little extra room to allow for that. Drilling the holes too small, can cause the sign to crack.
